Here's what's going on:

With The Juliene Mitchell Band, we have recently had a good little run of gigs since the summer. We started out in July with a a surprise invite from J&R’s Indian Head Pub in Hanson. Then to the Brewster Bar in Plymouth where we had a pretty wild night. For some reason Main St. seemed to be hopping that night. A number of birthday parties were out and about, and the place was jammed. We were back at the Brewster only a month later on 9/20. Another good night was had. The place seems to like us and we will have more dates coming up there as well.

On October 3rd, we played Lucky Goat Brewing in Wareham. A bit of a drive for me, but it’s a great spot. Good beer, a nice cozy room, and it had a pretty decent built in crowd. They had a nice Belgian Quad on tap, but at 14%, I had to keep it to a small one. October 10th we were at Pete’s Bar and Grille in Quincy. If you haven’t been there you should check it out. Pete’s has always kind of served as our home base.

On 11/30, we were invited by Jim Rockwell to play as a featured guest at the Player’s Every Sunday Pro Jam. What an honor that was, and we were able to get some decent videos (links below). On 12/6, we were back at Pete’s for another great show. I even had some old friends that I haven’t seen in years come out for this show. Coming up in the new year we’ve got J&R’s Indian Head Pub in Hanson on 1/3, Brewster Bar on 1/10 in Plymouth, and then the Next Page in Weymouth in February (date to TBC). We hope to see you at some of these gigs. We’ll be having a blast; you will too!

Gear

I’ve got my ’91 cream Strat back in action. With the number of end of summer gigs we’ve got, I thought I’d give my favorite guitar the most stage time. I bought this guitar used at Mr. Music in 1995. I can’t believe this guitar is 34 years old, and I’ve had it for 30.

Anyway, for those interested, this Fender American Strat has been pretty modified over the years. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Antiquities. The tuners have been modified to vintage style Fender tuners, the bridge has been upgraded to a Callaham bridge and block. And, not really of modification, but the Olympic white finish has turned to a nice deeper cream color over its 35 years.

For amps, I’ve been playing my Quilter Mini 101 a lot. It sounds so sparkly good. It’s also so small and light. It would make a great backup, but just sounds too good to be relegated to backup duty. I brought it out for Porchfest. It’s 50W solid state and held up fine outdoors through a 210 cabinet.

I also brought the Quilter Mini 101 out for the Lucky Goat gig. The Lucky Goat is a relatively small room and too much volume could have been an issue. The Mini 101 sounds better at lower volumes than my tube Blues Jr. would at low volume. But don’t get me wrong, everything still sounds better with some significant volume.
