Here's what's going on:

Not much going on right now on the Juliene Mitchell Band front. We’ve been struggling to get together for rehearsal over the past few months. Currently we have no gigs on the books. However, we’ve got plans to get back on track and get some new tunes going and some summer gigs booked.

Aside from JMB, I’ve been trying to hit more open mics with the acoustic guitar. I’ve managed to hit a few in St. Pete and have made a few musical contacts down there. Those are all singer/guitar open mics as I still don’t have an electric guitar and rig down there.

On this past trip down, I did open mics at Pinella’s Ale Works (PAWs), Delicious: An Interactive Taste Experience, and Mastry’s Brewing. I’ve done PAWs a number of times now. The host, Jordan, has a nice little following. This event takes place in either their private event space or outside in the beer garden, depending on the weather. For 3 of the 4 times I’ve been there, it’s been cold and the event was inside. The one time it was nice and outside, it was awesome. I look forward to the better weather and playing on the outside stage.

At PAWs, we met some dude from Boston, who then told us about another open mic at Delicious. We’ve never heard of this place, but it was only a half mile away, so we rolled over there. Cool spot in the Morean Center for Clay building in the Warehouse Arts building. I got myself a Delirium and I was back up performing probably 25 minutes after finishing up at PAWs.

The girl who ran the Delicious event, Hanah, also runs the Mastry Brewing open mic. I was already planning make it there because I love that brewery, but it was nice to meet Hanah beforehand.

Mastry’s was cool setup for the open mic, with a good amount of performers and listeners. The only disappointments were the cold, windy weather, and that Mastry’s did not have their Beglian Tripel on tap. I “settled for a meaty Belgian Quad. Our friends Amy and Brent came out as well. Brent even came up and sang with me on the Stones’ Dead Flowers. Again, I can’t wait to get back with a little warmer weather.

Gear

I’m currently playing my Dakota Red “PartsCaster”. I’m really a big fan of this guitar and love how Gerry Gorham has set it up for me. This guitar is a Might Mite body, with a mystery replacement neck that I pulled off of another eBay purchased Frankenstein guitar. The pickups are Fender Texas specials.

For amps, I finally convinced my old bandmate, Chris Tilden, to sell me his Fender Pro Jr. This is a great little amp. I used it at our JMB gig at the Brewster Bar and it sounded great with my Les Paul. I’m still trying to reign in the treble for Strat use, but there’s no doubt it’ll get there. I imagine this will be an amp that I tote along to blues jams. It could even be brought along to gigs as a back up amp (when it is not on main amp duty). Long gone are the days where I hauled a 4x10 Blues Deville as a backup.
