Now that Lori and I have a place in St. Pete, I will be making some updates to the below "St. Pete Guide". There are some spots on here that have closed, and a bunch that have opened and need to be added. And I'm sure we will expand and discover much more being down there more often. Stay tuned.
Check out this guide to St. Pete beer and coffee I put together a while back. The list of breweries isn’t even close to being an exhaustive list of the breweries in the area. These are most of our regulars and mostly central to the Downtown/Grand Central area.
We’ve found a number of breweries over the years that are now pretty much in rotation. Most of these places provide an opportunity for nice bike rides around the city.
Messorem – This one is a bit of a ride down the canal. You turn into a somewhat industrial area once you see the giant water tower that literally towers over you while sipping at the outdoor beer garden. Adirondack chairs, graffiti walls, hanging bike racks. There’s basically a bike parking lot. Cool spot.
Dieu du Ciel – An old favorite, with a newly designed tap room. Up on Le Plateau, a half block off St. Laurent, and right on one of Montreal’s many bike lanes. Dieu du Ciel always has many interesting choices outside of the typical IPA heavy offerings of many other places. On this visit they had a delicious Belgian Tripel. There’s not enough breweries doing Belgian Tripels and this was an outstanding example. Lori had a Rosee d’Hibiscus (blonde ale with hibiscus).
Mellon Brasserie – Located up in the Villeray section of Montreal, this taproom is tucked onto a little side street right off of a quite busy thoroughfare. The last leg of the bike ride to this joint can be quite hectic, but worth it. It’s a cozy little taproom with eclectic décor, a ceramic cat statue, and plants growing all over. Indoor/Outdoor seating, and a pizza vendor on premises. The pizza is quite good.
4 Origines – This place is located just off the bike path/esplanade in Point St. Charles, just behind the beach volleyball courts. We’ve been going here for a while. They’ve got some interesting choices and also do pretty good IPAs. Their taproom is a good spot to watch sporting events. They’ve got an inhouse food truck from which we got a very satisfying batch of poutine.
I’ve got to put some thought into what I want to use this section for. Food that I cook? Food that I eat out? We’ll see. Pictures of food are probably also needed.
